Founder and owner of Funky Little Chickens.
Hi, my name is Jeni and I’m the owner and founder of Funky Little Chickens. Welcome to our website and thank you for taking the time to visit.
Funky Little Chickens opened on 30 th March 2013. In a previous working life an idea of a children’s hair salon with a difference formulated. Starting with the concept of cars and DVD’s for distraction in a salon catered primarily just for children. The idea gained momentum thinking of services to offer the pregnant lady that hadn’t yet given birth to our future customers. By offering a calm, child friendly space for services such as pregnancy massage, reflexology and then baby massage seemed like a perfect fit.
The idea kept developing but with a busy corporate job that took up most of my time it never quite felt like the right time to make the leap into the scary world of self employment.
My father was a huge influence in my life, an entrepreneur with an eye for business. Someone we could all turn to for advice, he had a wealth of experience that was invaluable to guiding us all in the right direction. When he was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and just 12 months to live the bottom fell out of not just my world but my whole families. At this time nothing else mattered apart from spending time with him and doing our best to keep him as comfortable and in this world for as long as we possibly could.
Unfortunately 14 months later my dad lost his battle and once again this turned our lives upside down. For me, it also took away the fear of setting my own business up and I quickly immersed myself in the creation of what was to become Funky Little Chickens. It sounds clichéd but you really do realise that you have to live for the now, and life really is what you make it.
Me and my two sisters were always my dad’s ‘chickens’ so Funky Little Chickens seemed like the perfect name. Six months later we opened the Salon that timed perfectly with Easter weekend, lots of little chicks came to visit and support the opening, it was a very emotional day.
Seven years later I look back and it’s all a bit of a blur, I feel that this calm safe haven that my
wonderful team have created was thought of in another life but it was also the inspiration for me to get up in the morning when I didn’t think I could.
I couldn’t be prouder of my amazing team of chicks. They all bring different talents to the table but underpinning it all they all love working with children. However challenging the day may be their calmness and professionalism ensures that the business is successful seven days a week.
Thank you to all of our customers that have made Funky Little Chickens a success, your support has been invaluable and very much appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and me and my team look forward to welcoming you and your little chicks sometime soon to Funky Little Chickens.
